Of the many chapters that have been written about the history of the railways of Britain, few are as fascinating as the Edge Hill Light Railway, and its story is one of the most remarkable that has ever attended railway development. It proved to be uneconomical in transporting iron ore down the Edge Hill Escarpment and therefore  it had but a short life: 1922 to 1925. Nevertheless it still appeals to railway enthusiasts  and its legend as a railway continues to this day.
